18 February 2009 Today's concert featured an awesome performance of Schubert and Liszt by world renowned pianist Sodi Braide who calls Paris home.

28 January 2009  Today, I was determined to get a completely different perspective on the concert in Preston Bradley Hall. I got out as far as I could in order to capture the entire Tiffany dome and chandelier that hangs from the center of it. I included the performers, "Fifth House"- a string quartet playing Webern and Beethoven. I was still drawing when the concert ended but finished in time to meet 3 of the players who signed my drawing. We realized I'd drawn them before- playing in this same setting about a year ago. ...I just found the drawing I did of the group last year (posted on the right, or scroll down the page to view the original post). It was actually in April in GAR Hall of the Chicago Cultural Center while the Tiffany dome of Preston Bradley Hall was being restored.

29 October 2008. World-famous Ecuadoran pianist, Washington Garcia, performs works by Gershwin, Liszt, Yepez and Ginestera to a very appreciative full house at Preston Bradley Hall in the Chicago Cultural Center. I got to talk with the artist after the concert and he was kind enough to autograph my drawing. These concerts are broadcast live on WFMT, Chicago.

333WackerFULL.jpg

28 October 2008. I was at my gym tonight enjoying my workout as the sun was setting and I was taking in the views to the west and to the south which includes one of my favorite Chicago buildings, 333 Wacker, shown here in a detail from my watercolor drawing, "Chicago River". I was awed by the way the sun was hitting its curved glass wall. I was feeling pretty fortunate spending all the time I do in Chicago these days to see this building from so many different angles in so many different lights. I found it remarkable that nobody else in the crowded gym even seemed notice the spectacular sunset.

Millennium.jpg

I took advantage of the great October weather today to do this watercolor in Millennium Park. I've been doing a lot more outdoor painting since I've been going out and exhibiting with the Plein Air Painters of Chicago. I finished it this afternoon after drawing during today's concert by Quintet Attaca in Preston Bradley Hall at the Cultural Center (below).

Fifth House Ensemble performs Mozart and Brahms in the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) Hall of the Chicago Cultural Center. The concert venue has temporarily been relocated from Preston Bradley Hall while workers restore and open the Tiffany dome to natural light. My friend Marie Plum from Milwaukee accompanied me to the concert and was awed by the music and the setting.

Edo DeWaart conducts the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in Gustav Holst's "The Planets", one of my favorite pieces of music. It is the Saturday night concert of his debut series with the orchestra and he is warmly welcomed by the Milwaukee audience including my friends Jenny, Jeff and myself. We combed the area after the concert trying to find Maestro DeWaart to sign my drawing to no avail.
